Looking back on 2020

As I sit here next to my three month old playing with his toys, I can’t help but be thankful for all that 2020 brought. Yes, it has been a bazaar year that none of us expected, but it’s also brought a lot of good. My husband has been working from home full time since April and it has been wonderful having him home and sharing the office together. He didn’t miss anything throughout our pregnancy journey and now he gets to be here everyday with our son as well. I know this isn’t forever, but I’m cherishing these days at home with the three of us while I can! On the business side, thankfully Covid had very little impact. With so many clients working from home, it freed them up to work on their side hustles and businesses, meaning more work for me - woo hoo!

highlights

I’m humbled to say that despite the circumstances of our world, 2020 was a great year for the business. Including:

  • 16 new clients

  • 18 return / ongoing clients

what i learned

Less is more. Even with a 7 week maternity leave and other breaks throughout the year, the numbers are not far off from 2019. Fewer, but larger projects, and maintaining my relationships with ongoing clients created a great pace that allowed for a healthy work/life balance. I will definitely be taking that same concept into 2021!

what brought joy

Obviously our newest addition has brought the greatest joy possible. And with that, having him tag along with me to photo shoots and work meetings has been so fun. He may sleep through most outings, but having him as a little coworker is the best.

looking ahead

I’m not a big resolution gal, so for 2021, my goals are pretty simple:

  1. Balance. I’m come to realize that with a kiddo, sometimes work just doesn’t happen. Sometimes Instagram posts and blogs don’t happen. Sometimes I have to reschedule a call or a meeting. Rather than feel guilty for not having all my ducks in a row, I want to focus on being okay letting things slip here and there and allow room for more balance between running the business and being a mama.

  2. Revisit the shop. I have a long list of ideas for the shop, what to add and how I hope to see it grow. While it’s not at the top of my priority list, it is something I’d love to work on and grow next year.

  3. Be present. I’m a multitasker through and through, and I always have multiple plates spinning at once. In 2021, I want to work on being present in the moment, even if it means dropping the ball occasionally. I want my son to see my face when I’m playing and interacting with him, not my eyes looking down at my phone or my computer screen.

While I know the turn of the new year won’t magically resolve to all that’s going on in the world, I do think we’re all in need of a reset. Looking forward to turning the calendar tomorrow and celebrating all that’s to come in 2021. Be sure to sign up for my email list so that you don’t miss any of the exciting things coming your way!

Happy New Year!
